EXPLAIN THIS!
Well, the fact that you've clicked this makes us think that you already know what to do really. Basically the picture you've just tickled with your mouse has various bits and bobs to click on, which will bring up interesting (and sometimes true) things about the band. Try it, it's all sorts of fun!
What?? Who??
The two charming fellows in the picture to the right are Bert and Phil. Collectively, they are The Haiku, a "Power Folk" band from the south west of England.
They've been making music since 2006, and have been lucky enough to find people who like it!
They play concerts all around the UK. If you want them to play in your home town, just drop them a line and they'll see what they can do
If you like the music they make, don't be shy... buy a CD and let them know.
I am Phil. I am the singist, guitar-noise maker and songwriter. I am happymost when I'm bouncing around the stage entertaining all you lovely people.
I wish I could have written "Rumours" by Fleetwood Mac, but that would have mean I'd have to be five people, which makes no sense logistically.
I write a blog quite often, which is linked from the main page, but is also linked right here (click). Sometimes Bert also shares his thoughts on that page, but I tend to talk loads!
I hope you're having a lovely day, tell me about it.
Why is there a match?
As Phil's highly perceptive newphew once asked "Why is there a match?". I think the answer given at the time was "Why not a match?" but actually there is a reason behind it. Not an interesting one, granted, but a reason nontheless.
We've always had a bit of a soft spot for fire, our first EP was called "Man Make Fire", and our debut album (which even featured the sound of a bonfire - skillfully played by Gary Nichols) was called "Fan The Flames".
We've also had a video of a bonfire projected on to a screen behind us while playing, which was pretty cool.
But yeah, fire seems to have a part to play in The Haiku, and that's the way (uh-huh, uh huh) we like it!
Bert is this one
I am Bert, but I’m also other people with other names.
I hit things with sticks. Actually, I should probably be more specific, otherwise I might get arrested. I hit drums and cymbals with drumsticks. There, I think that’ll satisfy the legal people.
I drink cider. Some might say too much but that’s only my liver and livers shouldn’t have opinions.
I always wear a hat when I play, like that one there, wot I’m wearing in that there photograph of myself.
I don’t say a lot so I’m going to stop with the words now.
Phil's Strumming Device
Phil plays a lovely Fender Acoustic guitar. Many soundmen have commented on what a lovely guitar it is and what a nice sound it makes. Phil is happy he chose this one.
On the guitar strap is lots of badges, collected over time. Phil now has more badges than will actually fit on his strap, and is considering buying a spare guitar just so he can use them
As well as the guitar, Phil also uses a Boss Super Octave pedal, a magical little box which is The Haiku's bass player. Other pedals used are a simple chorus pedal and an Akai Headrush (looping and echo). Phil would like more technology at his feet, but doesn't have space on his pedal board... again, time for a spare guitar!
Bert's Hitting Contraption
Bert uses a Mapex V series 5 piece kit and Sabian cymbals. He generally hits them with Vic Firth 5B wood tips, although not always. He could tell you the full details of his kit, but thinks most people would find it boring.
Bert also uses the kettle to make cups of tea. Milk no sugar, if you were wondering.
He has, on occasion been rumoured to use his brain, although we’re still waiting for the evidence of this to be authenticated.
The following people have made The Haiku who they are today, by being downright lovely and helpful... we love them all
Names are in no particular order and are links where appropriate.
There are probably loads more, but our brains are hurting, so if you think you should be on this list, please don't be offended, just remind us and we'll add you.
We're always looking for new people to add to this list. If you think you want to be a part of making The Haiku even better, then please drop us a message in the post-it at the top of the page.
