Information For Journalists/Press Full BiographyImages Press Cuttings Info Sheet Contact info Download as pdfIn these days of instant gratification and apathy, it's refreshing to see a band looking at things a little differently. Sitting somewhere between Folk-Rock and Indie-Pop, without slotting neatly in to either pigeonhole, The Haiku, proudly independent and fiercely original, refer to their musical creation as “Power Folk”. Having been around since 2006, honing and improving their craft, they are living up to the title of their 2009 EP release... “Not Quite The Same”. Their line up, consisting of punk-folk acoustic guitar, vocals and drums is certainly not your average indie-rock band and audiences are often taken by surprise at the intensity of the sound created by such a minimal arrangement. Certainly, time spent with The Haiku leaves you in no doubt that the acoustic guitar does not have to be a quiet instrument. The memories you will take away from each and every show is an energetic performance of incredibly personal songs, which somehow manage to speak to each individual member of the audience. Anyone who’s ever loved and lost; or been frustrated with the state of the world; or been annoyed with the unfairness of life; or enjoyed the feeling of hope for the future, will understand and appreciate what The Haiku have to offer. Their work ethic is pleasantly different, and you'd be hard pressed to find a band around today who put more effort in. Regular interaction with fans (or "friends", since to love The Haiku is to be a part of their group), is paramount, and they are acutely aware that without people to listen, the band means nothing. Thankfully, people do want to listen, now moreso than ever. We are all searching for something to break the monotony of day to day routine, you could certainly do a lot worse than let The Haiku in to your life. The differences don't stop with the music either. Every single CD you can buy from their self maintained website, (www.thehaiku.co.uk) - or from one of their numerous gigs around the country, is lovingly hand made and often personalised. As well as that, they have also made a special edition EP - a live DVD of “Not Quite The Same”, played live in the back gardens of friends and family. Download as pdf...at times sounding like Bob Dylan, and other times the Waterboys... The Haiku’s music is catchy, easy to listen to, at times raw sounding, but undoubtedly an art form, created by two highly talented and artistic musicians. By Tamlyn Head for Unsigned Chart http://www.unsignedchart.com/page/rubyz-3rd-may-2009 For just two guys - drums, vocals & guitar - they make a big sound. Their cut-the-crap word play is laced with dry wit and their songs are oozing with melody and hooks. This is music you can believe in, because these guys are doing it all themselves. Support them, they deserve it. By Radio Caroline TV http://www.radiocarolinetv.co.uk/#/haiku/4533384602 Power folk described The Haiku best… well crafted and incredibly tight, probably the best acoustic / drum act I’ve had the pleasure of hearing in years… oozing out an infectious energy... By Cloudboy Live review from Sonic Sanctuary All Dayer (14/03/2009) ...Listening to them I feel heartened that there are at least two more thoroughly pleasant chaps out there than I previously knew about... the natural successors to The Levellers.... this album’s salt of the earth qualities must make it incredibly difficult to dislike, and it is one that could be played during any quiet moment in any day to put you in the correct frame of mind. A thoroughly enjoyable effort from start to finish. By Dave Urwin Fan The Flames review from LiveMusicScene THE HAIKU ! A 2 piece indie act hailing from Bath wouldn't look out of place at a Folk Festival are actually a Fast, Loud and Energetic act, and despite Phil’s choice of trousers, they truly rocked. The cover of Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights” was one of the evening’s highlights. A must see. Live review from The Regal, Oxford ...The Haiku from Trowbridge in Wiltshire are different. Their brand of 'Anti-Folk' shows that you don't need to be plugged in to rock. After far too long, the band have released their debut album and it does not disappoint.... Overall this is an album that succeeds from multiple angles. There is enough here to satisfy the 'traditionalist' fans who go in for acoustic music and also the 'indie' fans who like rock music with a bit of edge. The tongue-in-cheek moments on the album are just cherries on the cake By Colin Gazeley Fan The Flames review from Noize Makes Enemies "When you first listen to The Haiku, you notice their flare for telling a tale through song, a rarity in this day and age... This album is a must if you are in to The Goo Goo Dolls or Ben Folds Five... 11 carefully crafted works of art... Fan The Flames review by MutedPie.com Download as pdf“The Haiku take the honest and open style of raw acoustic music and mix it with the power of rock music.
